John Kenneth Wetton was born in Derbyshire in 1949, but grew up in Bournemouth.
Since the late 1960’s he has been a professional singer and songwriter, as well as playing guitar, bass guitar and keyboards.
His early music career saw him playing with bands that include Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Uriah Heep, UK and Wishbone Ash.
John was also the front man and main songwriter for Asia, whose debut album sold 8 million copies and was the Billboard magazine #1 album of 1982.
Like many musicians, John suffered with alcoholism, but has been sober since 2005.
In 2007 he had heart surgery, which resulted in the Asia tour being suspended. Their subsequent album, Phoenix was released in 2008, the artwork being created by Roger Dean.
Sadly John passed away on 31st January 2017, following a battle with cancer.
