Hands up anyone who has never heard of J.R.R. Tolkien?
All hands down as I imagined, and of course practically everyone knows the author of The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings, especially with the recent film adaptations of these amazing books about Middle Earth.
Tolkien came to Bournemouth on holiday for 30 years, always staying in the same room at the Hotel Miramar and renting another room which he used to write in.
He finally moved to Bournemouth in the 1960’s when the attention if his fast growing fans became too much for him. He lived with his wife Edith in a house off Branksome Chine until his death in 1973.
