Alison Newman is an actress, born in Bournemouth in 1968, and best known for her role as Hazel Bailey in the UK television series Footballer’s Wives.
Her parents, both school teachers, encouraged her to have an interest in acting, but did not enourage her to go to stage school when she was young. As her interest in acting developed, she joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 16, and later studied drama at Manchester University.
It was 10 years after graduating before Alison did any acting, however, being offered a part in a play written by someone she had previously worked with, and then she was offered a role in Touching Evil III in 1999, and another in Butterfly Collectors with the late i>
Her best known role as Hazel Bailey, the lesbian football agent in Footballer’s Wives came in 2002, and her father sadly passed away during the filming of the second series of the show.
Alison has also appeared in other movies, including The Prince And The Pauper, Ashes And Sand and Kidulthood.
She has had other television appearences in shows like The Bill, Great Expectations, Holby City, Casualty, and has appeared as a guest on This Morning and The Paul O’Grady Show.
Alison also regularly appears on stage in the West End.
